Abstract
Poverty is a significant multidimensional issue in Indonesia, particularly in the Central Java Province. This research aimed to estimate the effect of mean years of schooling and life expectancy on the working population, and the effect of mean years of schooling, life expectancy, and the working population on poverty in Central Java from 2011 to 2022. The analysis tool used was a panel data regression with the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) approach and the path analysis technique. The findings indicate that average years of schooling and life expectancy have a positive impact on the working population. Subsequently, the mean years of schooling, life expectancy, and working population negatively influence the poverty. Therefore, the mean years of schooling and life expectancy have a negative impact on the poverty. The working population can mediate the influence of the mean years of schooling and life expectancy on the poverty. Thus, the path analysis in this study is fully substantiated. Consequently, the government should prioritize enhancing access to education and the well-being of the community. Policy measures supporting the improvement of mean years of schooling and life expectancy can be crucial in reducing the poverty. Additionally, programs that promote increased job opportunities and skill development need to be reinforced. These strategic steps are expected to be able to create a positive impact in addressing the complexity of poverty issues and stimulating sustainable development.
