Abstract

The role and character of the ideal father is depicted in the Qur'an through dialogue in the story of Prophet Ya'qub with his sons, where the involvement of the father in parenting has a relationship with the psychological development of the child. This study aims to examine how the implied meaning of the ideal character of a father in the letter of Yusuf, as well as its relevance to the psychological development of children. This research is a descriptive qualitative research used to explain in depth the character of Prophet Ya'qub in the letter of Yusuf using a psychological approach, namely with the aim of building appreciation and objectivity in discussing the symptoms of the human soul and human behavior in its environment. The results of the analysis show that there are 8 ideal characteristics of a father that have a positive impact on the psychological development of children. The character and mental readiness of a child is formed from parenting and attitudes or educational values taught in the family environment. Fathers are male role models in children's lives, therefore the role of fathers is needed in children's daily lives, with the influence and involvement of fathers it will affect several psychological aspects such as mental well-being, emotional and also cognitive abilities. The involvement of fathers in the upbringing of children as told in the form of dialogue between the Prophet Ya'qub and his sons is able to direct the development of the character of his sons in a positive direction in accordance with Islamic religious law.
