Abstract
The aims of this research are to: (1) describe the novel structure in the novel Tahajud Cinta in New York City by Arumi Ekowati; (2) analyze the inner conflict of the main character Tahajud Cinta in New York City; and (3) discussing the significance of research findings regarding the inner conflict of the main character Tahajud Cinta in New York City for the study of literary psychology using novels as teaching material. With a concentrated case study, this research is a qualitative descriptive research. Tahajud's novel Cinta in New York City is the subject of this research, and the main character's internal conflict is the object of this research. Sentences and dialogue were used as research data sources, and the novel Tahajud Cinta in New York City by Arumi Ekowati was used as a research data source. Literature study techniques were used in data collection. Theoretical triangulation is used in the data validation procedure. Heuristic and hermeneutic reading are two examples of semiotic reading strategies used in data analysis. The findings of this research include: (1) the story structure of the novel Tahajud Cinta in New York City which concentrates on the themes and details of the story; and (2) the inner conflict of the protagonist, which includes: inner conflict approaching, inner conflict approaching and moving away, and inner conflict moving away. (3) The inner struggle of Tahajud Cinta in New York City and the teaching materials for high school novels were found to be similar by researchers.
