Abstract

Mentally retarded children have a lower level of intellectual intelligence than children in general. Conventional methods are still used today to present material to students in the teaching and learning process. Mentally retarded children quickly lose interest in learning if they use this method. To overcome this, mentally retarded children must have accompanying learning materials that can arouse their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. The aim of this research is to develop learning companion media that will make it easier for mentally retarded students to understand material regarding the introduction of plant parts. This research was conducted at the Sukoharjo State Special School specifically for class IV mentally retarded children. The GDLC (Game Development Life Cycle) method was chosen as the development method in this research. This educational game was tested using black box testing and the SUS (System Usability Scale) method. The output of this research is a series of educational games that highlight different parts of plants. Based on teacher interview findings, the game's difficulty level has been adjusted to the skills of mentally retarded children. The development of this educational game uses Construct 2 software. It can be concluded that this game can be used for mentally retarded students and can be used as a learning companion tool for mentally retarded children based on the results of tests that have been carried out, especially Blackbox testing which shows that the game functionality can function according to expectations and testing. questionnaire which produced an average SUS score of 74.1.
