Abstract
Electroplating is a process of electrolytically deposition of protective metal ions (anode), which is desired on top of another metal (cathode). This study aims to analyze the roughness value and surface hardness value of gray cast iron before and after nickel-chrome plating by electroplating method. Roughness testing is carried out using the Surface Roughness Tester to determine the roughness value, while the hardness test is carried out using the Rockwell Hardness Tester method to determine the hardness value. The results obtained from surface roughness testing are on specimens without coating (raw material) have a higher roughness value compared to the roughness value on specimens that have been coated with nickel 90 minutes & chrome 20 seconds, with a roughness value of 4.504875 μm. While in specimens that have been coated, only an average roughness value of 1.17975 μm was obtained. The results obtained from Rockwell hardness testing are that specimens that have been coated with nickel 90 minutes & chrome 20 seconds have a higher hardness value compared to specimens without coating (raw material), the average value of hardness in coated specimens is 87.9 HRB. While the average value of hardness in specimens without coating (raw material) is 84.33 HRB.
