Abstract

Migrant students need to make efforts to face challenges and pressure by learning to adapt to new environments. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between emotional maturity and social support and adjustment in migrant students. The population in this study were students of the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who had migrated by sampling using a purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 151 students. The research method used is quantitative correlational. The analysis technique in this research is multiple regression using SPSS 23.0 for windows. Data collection in this study used three scales, namely the emotional maturity scale, social support scale, and adjustment scale. The results of the research obtained an R value = 0.699; p = 0.000 (p < 0.01), meaning that there is a very significant relationship between emotional maturity and social support and adjustment. Furthermore, there is a very significant positive relationship between emotional maturity and adjustment with r = 0.465; p = 0.000 (p<0.01). Then, there is a very significant positive relationship between social support and adjustment with r= 0.688; p = 0.000 (p<0.01). The effective contribution of the variables emotional maturity and social support to self-adjustment is 48.8%, with details of emotional maturity influencing self-adjustment by 6.7% and social support influencing self-adjustment by 42.1%. The remaining 51.2% is influenced by other variables not studied. Between the variables of emotional maturity and social support, the social support variable has a greater influence on self-adjustment.
