Abstract
First year students are students who are currently studying in the first semester. At this time there will be several challenges that will be experienced by first year students, not only academic challenges but also non-academic challenges. Therefore, it is important for first-year students to have high subjective well-being so that students are able to adapt well and maximize their potential. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between academic stress, social support, and subjective well-being of first-year students. The instrument used in this study. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a relationship between academic stress and social support with the subjective well-being of first-year students. This study uses a correlational quantitative approach. The instruments used in this study were a scale of subjective well-being, academic stress, and social support. The measuring instrument used a scale consisting of a subjective well-being scale, an academic stress scale, and a social support scale which was distributed using the Google form. The subjects of this study were students of the 2022 class. Muhammadiyah Surakarta University and Semarang State University as many as 211 students. The sampling technique used is incidental sampling. The data analysis technique used was multiple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS version 24. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a very significant positive relationship between academic stress, social support, and subjective well-being as evidenced by the value of R = and p = 0.00 ( p<0.05). The effective contribution of the independent variables in this study amounted to 61.7% of which 36.21% were influenced by the academic stress variable and 25.45 were influenced by the social support variable. The categorization results show that first year students have high subjective well-being of 45.02%, also have moderate academic stress of 45%, and have high social support of 48.82%. The conclusion of this study shows that first year students are in a phase of adjustment to a new environment that is different from the previous environment which made them feel less prosperous, but with low academic stress and high social support it is able to make students become prosperous again
