Abstract
Adolescent mental health in Indonesia is a problem that has received little attention. Adolescence is a critical period characterized by many biological and psychological changes, one of which is influenced by fanaticism. Fanaticism is studied at the level of liking or being interested in celebrities, namely in K-Pop popular culture which is mushrooming and is widely favored by teenagers. The purpose of the study was to empirically examine the relationship between K-Pop fanaticism and adolescent mental health and examine differences in the level of fanaticism and mental health in male and female adolescents. The subjects of this study were adolescent K-Pop fans aged 15-22 years in Indonesia. Subjects totaled 148 people. The subject selection technique was accidental sampling. Data were collected using the K-Pop fanaticism scale and the MHI-38 mental health scale. Data analysis techniques in this study used simple linear regression and independent t test. The results of the analysis between K-Pop fanaticism and adolescent mental health, the value of B = .304 and sig. p = 0.003 <0.005 means that there is a positive relationship between K-Pop fanaticism and adolescent mental health, which means that the higher the level of K-Pop fanaticism, the higher the level of adolescent mental health. Analysis of differences in the level of fanaticism between male and female adolescents, sig 0.283 (p>0.05) means that there is no significant difference in the level of fanaticism towards K-Pop between men and women. Analysis of differences in mental health levels between male and female adolescents, sig 0.895 (p>0.05) means that there is no significant difference in mental health levels between males and females. To prevent excessive fanatic behavior, it is necessary to have a parental role in guiding teenage K-Pop fans so that they remain at the level of liking and admiring idols and can access education about the levels of fanaticism and the dangers if the level of fanaticism increases.
