Abstract
The development of composite technology is currently experiencing a shift from composite materials reinforced with synthetic fibers to composite materials reinforced with natural fibers. This technological shift is based on the nature of composites reinforced with natural fibers which are more environmentally friendly. The fiber that we can find easily around us is fiber from nana leaves. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of alkali treatment on the physical and mechanical properties of pineapple fiber composites with polyester reinforcement. The method for making composite specimens uses the hand lay up method and the tests carried out are tensile tests and bending tests. In this study, pineapple fiber was soaked in a KOH solution with a concentration of 0% (without soaking), 0% (without alkali treatment), 5%, 10% and 15% for 2 hours. From the research that has been carried out and data from calculation analysis results, it can be seen that the tensile stress in pineapple fiber composite with a KOH concentration of 10% has the highest tensile stress with a value of 1.108 MPa. And a variation of pineapple fiber composite with a KOH0% concentration (without alkali treatment) has a high bending stress of 51.731 MPa. So the greatest tensile stress is found in the pineapple fiber composite which is treated with alkali, while the bending stress is largest in the pineapple fiber composite which is not treated with alkali.
