Abstract

Self confidence is an important thing that must be owned by students. This study aims to determine whether the intensity of using Instagram social media and social support simultaneously affect student self-confidence. This research is a quantitative study with three scales, namely the scale of self-confidence, intensity of use, and social support. The population of this study were undergraduate students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Sampling used accidental sampling and a sample of 110 students was obtained. Methods of data analysis using multiple linear regression analysis. The results show that the intensity of the use of social media and peer social support simultaneously affect self-confidence with an F count of 6,623 > F table of 3.08 and a sig value of 0.002 <0.05 with an effective contribution of 11%. In the variable intensity of use, the t count value is -0,456 < t table 1.982 and the sig value is 0,206 > 0.05, the intensity of social media use has no effect on self-confidence. In the peer social support variable t count 3,535 > t table 1.982 and a sig value of 0.000 <0.05 so that peer social support has a significant positive effect on self-confidence. The categorization of results shows that the intensity of using social media, social support, and student self-confidence is in the moderate category.
