Abstract
High blood pressure is prone to occur in the elderly. High blood pressure is caused by high sodium intake and low potassium intake. A preliminary survey at Posyandu Cikulak Kidul village found a prevalence of high blood pressure of 66.67%. The purpose of this study was to know the relationship of sodium and potassium intake with blood pressure in the elderly at Posyandu Cikulak Kidul Village, Waled Sub District, Cirebon Regency. This research was analytical observational with cross sectional design. Sample of this research was taken using simple random sampling technique as many as 49 respondents adjusted for inclusion and exclusion criteria. All data were analyzed using Spearman's Rank test. This result show that 24 respondents (49%) had sodium intake in more category, 46 respondents (93.9%) had potassium intake in less category and 16 respondents (32.7%) had blood pressure in the hypertension category stage 2. There is a relationship between sodium intake, systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p=<0,001) in Posyandu, Cikulak Kidul Village. There is no relationship between potassium intake and systolic blood pressure (p=0,536) in Posyandu, Cikulak Kidul Village. There is no relationship between potassium intake and diastolic blood pressure (p=0,673) in Posyandu, Cikulak Kidul Village.
