Abstract

Plant cultivation does not only use soil as the main medium, water can also be used as the main medium in plant cultivation or what is commonly called hydroponics. The amount of water used for hydroponics is still less than for watering plants with soil media so that it can overcome the problem of water shortages. Some of the advantages of hydroponics are it does not require large areas of land, maintenance is more practical, and the risk of flooding and drought is small. The hydroponic plants that are commonly grown are leaf vegetables, fruit vegetables, and herbal plants. Various types of plants are sometimes difficult to determine which plants should be planted, so it is necessary to select plants. Plant selection can be facilitated by designing a decision support system for selecting hydroponic plants using TOPSIS method. TOPSIS is a method in a decision-making system that is used to evaluate alternatives based on criteria by considering the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative. The TOPSIS method used in this research is to recommend hydroponic plants with the highest preference value and users can also take the top 5 preference values. The criteria used for selecting plants are the harvest time calculated from the seeds sown, plant diseases that are commonly found, nutrients used to plant to grow, maintenance costs incurred during the storage process, and the selling price of plants as a consideration if hydroponic plants are for sale. The method used for system development in this research is waterfall and system testing using black box showing good system performance results and the System Usability Scale test obtaining a value of 90.5, which means the system is feasible to use and easy to operate. This research produces a website-based decision support system for selecting hydroponic plants that is easily accessible to the general public as long as they are connected to the internet.
