Abstract
Indonesia has a geological location that identifies very unique rock and mountainous conditions, this is what causes Indonesia to have a very abundant natural resource content so that its formation is therefore widely utilized for economic growth, one of which is mining activities. Environmental damage due to mining also occurs in areas affected by the eruption of Mount Merapi. eruption of Mount Merapi that occurred in 2010 in Yogyakarta resulted in river drought caused by cold lava, therefore there is a lot of volcanic material contained in it such as stone and sand. This also occurs in the Gendol River, Sindumartani Village, Sleman Regency, the Gendol River has a length of 18.21 km2 and has an area of 37.29 km2. As a result of the large amount of volcanic material, it encourages people to carry out mining activities. Community mining activities have positive and negative impacts on the surrounding environment (Dela Khoirul Ainia, and Jirzanah. 2021). The aims of this study: To analyze the physical environmental impacts caused by mining on the Gendol river, Sindumartani Village, Ngemplak, Sleman. Analyze the role of the community in preventing environmental damage due to mining. The method used is survey. The results of this study indicate 2 environmental damage due to mining, namely light and moderate damage. Then the role of the community in preventing environmental damage is still relatively moderate.
