Abstract
Crises in various organizations cannot be avoided, crises can occur anywhere and anytime. Events that cause a crisis are likely to threaten an organization's reputation. The mass media is an act of crisis management and has a major influence in a crisis. Crisis communication, namely the collection, processing, and dissemination of information is useful for handling crises. This research tries to see the crisis response strategy used by BPOM to respond to the crisis at CNN Indonesia Media. This crisis occurred when the public was shocked by the death of a child due to drug ingredients containing chemical compounds. Using a quantitative approach to content analysis with a content validity test and a holster formula as a measure of reliability between coders. Researchers found 45 news articles regarding BPOM's response from October-December 2022 to serve as data sources. Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) is a response strategy used by organizations to find out how the crisis occurred. The results of this study indicate 5 crisis response strategies used by BPOM in handling the distribution of ethylene glycol-based children's drugs. The 5 categories are excusing, justifications, reminders, scapegoating, & denial. Even though this category cannot solve the crisis, it can minimize the negative impact of the crisis.
