Abstract
The rapid development of real estate and residential homes in various countries, especially in developing nations and Africa, presents an opportunity for the growth of smart homes through IoT and smart systems. This project focuses on improving security and convenience by implementing a biometric fingerprint door lock, as well as light and fan automation using the ESP32 and ESP8266 microcontrollers and the Arduino Uno board. The integration of these technologies aims to enhance convenience, energy efficiency, and security within residential spaces. To evaluate the system's performance, the average time taken to control lights and fans using IoT compared to manual switches was measured. The IoT-controlled setup using Arduino IoT Cloud achieves an energy savings of approximately 40% compared to the traditional setup with the same wattage. However, it is important to consider that the actual energy efficiency increase depends on factors such as the devices used, user behavior, and the level of optimization applied.dditionally, a biometric fingerprint sensor was implemented to ensure secure access to the home, allowing only authorized individuals to enter. This IoT smart system provides accessibility through both desktop and mobile applications, benefiting individuals worldwide who seek to embrace IoT-based smart homes and improve their living conditions. The integration of biometric security and automation technologies enhances convenience, energy efficiency, and safety within residential spaces. By utilizing IoT solutions, individuals can experience greater control and accessibility, ultimately improving their overall quality of life.
