Abstract
A pico-hydro scale power plant with a capacity of less than 5 KW is needed to help provide electricity in the village. This research was conducted in a river using an Archimedes screw turbine to rotate the generator, this turbine is needed because it can be used at low heads. A permanent magnet generator is used to produce a sinusoidal voltage whose magnitude depends on how fast the rotor rotates. Experiments were carried out with different types of voltage, namely direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC), the use of a rectifier circuit was intended to obtain a DC type output voltage, the DC voltage was converted to AC using an inverter. The use of an inverter is intended to get a frequency of 50 Hz. The parameters to be measured are the rotational speed of the generator, voltage and current at the load. The greatest power obtained, which is 3.42 watts, is used for charging the battery with an average current of 0.27 amperes. When loaded with a 12 watt AC lamp, the power is stable at 11.3 watts with a voltage of 205 Vac.
