Abstract

The education system organised both in Indonesia and abroad has a phenomenon that attracts attention. The phenomenon of educational institutions that require students, learners or students to study and live in the campus area or better known as the education system with a boarding institution pattern. The value of character-based education in formal learning leads to an instant learning system only as a course, without further application of character education. Campus 3 of the Faculty of Dentistry only has facilities to support formal academic learning for students, but the role of supporting facilities is still not fulfilled, especially since Campus 3 is separated from the central campus. The development of world campuses such as Oxford University is also inseparable from the role of colleges that provide learning and living facilities for academic support of students in obtaining degrees. Students have more opportunities to strengthen and instil the value of character education outside of formal learning with the student dormitory facility. The purpose of the design is to design student dormitory facilities for Dentist Education students at Muhammadiyah University Surakarta and ensure Character-Based Education in the design of Student Dormitory. Parameters in the design of student dormitory in the form of dormitory facilities and character-based education parameters in the form of elements of heart (religious, social care, environmental care), mind (love of reading, creative), exercise (healthy), and taste & spirit (cooperation). The concept of designing a student dormitory will apply the principle of character-based education parameters, so that adequate facilities are available for students in instilling the value of character education. Character education supporting facilities occur in order to establish human relationships with God, human relationships with other humans and human relationships with nature.
