Abstract

The construction of flats is one alternative solution to the problem of residential needs in urban areas where, the number of population and housing needs are increasing. Surakarta City is also inseparable from the problem of the need for decent, safe, and comfortable housing, especially for people with disabilities and the elderly. The environment and circumstances of the apartment have an influence on the thoughts, feelings, and behavior of its residents. The comfort of flats is the main thing that needs to be considered, especially flats with priority for elderly and disabled users. This physical and psychological comfort can be applied by adapting the concept of healing environment that is often used in rehabilitation centers and hospitals. From the planning of this flat, it aims to design flats that pay attention to the psychological comfort of users, especially for people with disabilities and the elderly through the application of the concept of healing environment and finding the right design location for the construction of disability-friendly and elderly flats in Surakarta City. The method used in this design process is qualitative through the stages of observation, data analysis, determination of design themes, design concepts, design schematic drawings. The design parameters in the design use the concept of a healing environment architecture that is friendly to the elderly and disabled. The design process resulted in the design of disability-friendly and elderly flats in Surakarta that can help solve the problem of lack of decent, safe, and comfortable housing for people with disabilities and the elderly in Surakarta with increasingly limited land. .
