Abstract

Diesel engines are widely used for vehicles, heavy equipment and also power generation. Diesel engines use diesel oil as fuel, the quality of this diesel oil is determined by the Cetane Number (CN). Fuel quality can be improved by using a high Cetane Number or with a Cetane Booster. The purpose of adding Cetane Number is to improve the performance of diesel engines. The fuels used in the research were bio-diesel and dexlite and bio-diesel with a mixture of 5mL and 10mL additives. The test was carried out with a Loncin 186 FE diesel engine with engine speed of 1500 to 3000 rpm with an interval of 300 rpm in each test. The results of the tests carried out obtained the best torque and power using bio-diesel fuel with a 5 mL additive mixture, obtained a torque of 18.2414Nm at 2400 rpm engine speed and a power of 5.2235kW at 3000 rpm engine speed. While the lowest KBBS using bio-diesel fuel with a mixture of 10mL additives, obtained a KBBS value of 0.0779 Kg/hour.kW at 2400 rpm engine speed. From this study it was concluded that fuel with the addition of additives can increase the performance of diesel engines.
