Abstract

Thesis is a research project which is one of the main criteria for obtaining a bachelor's degree (S1), parental support and motivation are very important for students to have so they can manage self-control to complete assignments according to the allotted time. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental support and thesis motivation with students' self-control when composing. The method used in this research is quantitative. The population of this study is students with the criteria of having completed writing a thesis within ± 6 months from the Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics & Business, and Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, class of 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. and at the time of completion living with parents in one house. The sampling technique in this study used simple random sampling and used the Slovin formula which resulted in a minimum sample of 360. The hypothesis in this study was: H1: There is a relationship between parental support and motivation with students' self-control when preparing their thesis; H2: There is a positive relationship between parental support and students' self-control when writing their thesis; H3: There is a positive relationship between students' motivation and self-control when compiling their thesis. Collecting data using multiple regression analysis techniques. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant influence of parental support and thesis motivation on students' self-control when compiling as evidenced by the results of the R Square coefficient test of 0.397, thus the hypothesis in the study was accepted.
