Abstract
Aluminum alloy is a type of metal that is widely used in the shipping industry, especially as a construction material for ships. Determination of weld parameters is very important in the welding process. The strength of the welding current and the influence of the shape of the seam is one of the parameters of the welding process which will affect the mechanical properties of the weld. This research was conducted to find out how much influence it has on the mechanical properties if the seam used for welding is varied with seams V X and U. The material used is Aluminum Series 6063 with a thickness of 5 mm with a single V seam volume of 60° 300 mm³, seam volume X 80˚ 300 mm³ and seam U r: 2.53 mm volume 302.1 mm³. The welding method applied in this study was GMAW welding with ER 5356 filler diameter of 1 mm as the filler metal. By carrying out tensile, hardness, microstructure and elemental tests of the material, the highest tensile strength was achieved at seam V with a stress value of 216 MPa, a strain of 0.066, a modulus of elasticity of 3279 MPa. The lowest tensile strength occurs in the U seam with a stress value of 149 Mpa, a strain of 0.033, a modulus of elasticity of 4465 Mpa. The results of the SEM-EDX test are greatly influenced by the variation in the seam used and the heat input so that there are differences in the compound content in each given seam, this shows that the hardness value in the weld area is always greater than the hardness value in the HAZ area and the parent metal for each variation. hem. In camp V the hardness test obtained the highest value of 90.7 HVN, the lowest hardness was in camp U with a value of 65.6 HVN.
