Abstract
The development of entrepreneurial activities has played a significant role in guiding young people to start businesses since their college years. In the era of Industry 4.0, students are expected to compete by creating products that can solve societal problems. The Wirausaha Merdeka program aims to instill an entrepreneurial spirit in students, involving risk-taking, creativity, innovation, and management skills to identify and pursue opportunities. The Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, specifically the Wirausaha Merdeka (WMK) initiative at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, is expected to be the solution to creating flexible and high-quality learning in higher education, fostering a new, engaging, innovative learning culture that meets the needs of students and enhances graduates' competencies. The program runs from September to December 2022 and consists of four segments. Firstly, entrepreneurship workshops with experienced business practitioners provide students with understanding. Secondly, internships in SMEs hone students' skills through hands-on experience. Thirdly, business pitching and prototype development activities involve presenting the products to a panel of evaluators. Lastly, the expo event showcases and commercially markets the created products to the public. The outcomes of the Wirausaha Merdeka program at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta include helping students comprehend and refine their entrepreneurial skills, thus enabling them to prepare themselves with valuable skills upon graduation.
