Abstract
Background: Leprosy is an infectious disease which is still a very complex problem for health. Both from a medical point of view, social, economic, cultural issues including the stigma in mothers against leprosy and the disability it causes. Objective: to find out the effect of health education on mother's knowledge and stigma about leprosy in the Weru area using lectures and leaflets. Method: with the quantitative method of the One Group Pretest-PostTest design. Sample: the researcher is a mother respondent with a level of knowledge and stigma of 38 people. Sampling used the cross-sectional method with analysis of the Paired Sample T-test. Results: this study showed that prior to health education there were 26 respondents (68.4) with insufficient knowledge, 12 respondents (31.6) sufficient knowledge, the highest score was mother's level of knowledge 13, the lowest score was 3, the average was 7.37. Prior to health education, 36 respondents had high stigma (94.7), moderate stigma was 2 respondents (5.3). The highest value is 96, the lowest value is 61, the average is 81.32. After being given health education, 16 respondents (42.1) had sufficient knowledge of mothers, 22 respondents had good knowledge (57.9), after health education, 24 respondents had low stigma (63.2), moderate stigma was 14 respondents (36.8). . the highest value is 70, the lowest value is 30, the average is 47.58. The p-value is 0.001 based on the Paired Sample T-test. In conclusion, there are differences in the level of knowledge of mothers and stigma before and after being given health education.
