Abstract

Background : School-age children are susceptible to diseases such as diarrhea, URI (Upper Respiratory Infection), and worms. The cause of illness experienced by students at school is a lack of hand hygiene. An effective way of cleaning microbes on hands is washing hands with running water and using soap properly. This is done because germs can spread through a less clean attitude. Purpose : This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the description of the implementation of hand washing in students at the Banyudono Special Program Muhammadiyah Elementary School. Method : This study applies a quantitative methods with a descriptive approach. This study used a sample of 68 respondents at the Banyudono Special Program Muhammadiyah Elementary School. The research sample was taken using cluster random sampling technique. Data analysis in this study used univariate analysis with data collection in the form of a research measurement tool in the form of a questionnaire on Implementation of Handwashing in School Children totaling 23 statement items. Results : This study shows that the level of implementation of hand washing is mostly in the bad category, namely as many as 48 respondents with a percentage 70,6%, while the level of implementation of hand washing in the good category, namely 20 respondents with a percentage of 29,4%. Conclusion :Based on the results of the study, the characteristics of the students at the Banyudono Special Program Muhammadiyah Elementary School are mostly male and most of them are 10 years old. The behavior of students washing their hands at the Banyudono Special Program Muhammadiyah Elementary School is mostly in the bad category.
