Abstract

The phenomenon of urban sprawl is one of the phenomena originating from the problem of urbanization which can be defined as a form of urban physical development. Ngemplak District is geographically located at the eastern end of Boyolali Regency and is directly adjacent to Surakarta City, making this area prone to urban sprawl. This study aims to (1) analyze changes in the built-up land cover due to urban sprawl in Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency in 2000 and 2021. (2) Analyze developments in the characteristics of the urban sprawl level in Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency in 2000 and 2021. (3) Analyze urban sprawl typology in Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency in 2000 and 2021. Research on urban sprawl typology in Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency uses descriptive analysis methods, spatial analysis and scoring. The research results show that the development of built-up land cover in Ngemplak District in 2000 and 2021 will experience a growth of 332,484 ha. The development of built-up land in the southern region tends to develop faster with an area of 28.43 ha to 77.11 ha. Meanwhile, the northern region ranges from 7,674 ha to 14,516 ha. Developments in sprawl identification have changed from four villages to five villages in 2021 with the addition of one village, namely Ngargorejo Village. Changes in the development of urban sprawl characteristics in 2000 and 2021 occurred in almost all variables except the distance to the city center and frog jump development patterns. The development of the typology of urban sprawl in Ngemplak Subdistrict tends to have the same distribution pattern, it's just that the classification is different between 2000 and 2021, such as typology one in 2000 consisting of 4 villages while in 2021 only one village, typology two also underwent a change even though the number remained 3 in In 2000 and 2021 there was a change in the villages included in the classification, no different from the others for the high classification which also underwent a change, namely an increase of 2 villages in 2021 to 6 villages.
