Abstract

Background : Another factor that causes recurrence of mental disorders is the patient's ignorance of drugs, namely about the efficacy of the drugs being consumed, severe side effects, and other factors. Therefore, it is necessary to provide health education (psychoeducation) to patients so that they can understand the efficacy of the drugs they are taking and what side effects they will experience. Purpose : This study aims to determine the effect of psychoeducation about the side effects of antipsychotics on the level of knowledge of patients with mental disorders. Research Methods : This study uses a type of quantitative research using a Before and After study research design with a comparative approach. The population of this study were outpatients at the Arif Zainudin Psychiatric Hospital. This study used the accidental sampling method, outpatients at the hospital totaling 40 people with the criteria of patients aged more than 17 years, patients diagnosed with mental disorders, patients with a minimum level of elementary school, patients who can read and write, patients who do not live alone, patients who have been sick for at least 5 years. Data collection used a demographic data questionnaire and a questionnaire on the level of patient knowledge about the side effects of antipsychotics. Results : The results of calculations using the SPSS program show the results of the P-Value 0.001 < 0.05, this shows that there is an influence in providing psychoeducation on the level of knowledge of the respondents. Then Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Conclusion : It can be concluded that there is influence in providing psychoeducation at the level of knowledge of respondents.
