Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a physical disease that experiences an increase in blood glucose which causes a person's physical changes. These physical changes are prone to having an impact on changes in a person's psychological condition, especially on his psychological well-being. The aims of this study were: 1) To find out the condition of people with diabetes mellitus type 2 (2) to know the attitudes and efforts of people with diabetes mellitus type 2 about their health (3) to know the psychological well-being of people with diabetes mellitus type 2 ? This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The characteristics of the research subjects required in this study are: (1) Adults who have type II diabetes mellitus based on a doctor's diagnosis, (2) Aged 57-64 years (3) Willing to voluntarily participate in this study with informed consent behavior given by research, (4) Have a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus for more than 1 year based on a doctor's diagnosis, (5) Have the ability to read and write. The results of this study were that while experiencing type 2 diabetes mellitus, the subjects experienced physical changes (weight loss, reduced immunity, increased intensity of urination, easy weakness). From this physical condition, the subjects tried to cure it medically and improve their food consumption patterns, as well as support from the family who continued to support their recovery. Over time, the subject is able to adjust to the circumstances that occur to him, so that the third subject still has psychological well-being that settles well and there are no drastic changes that are bad. The psychological well-being that they get comes from two important strengths, namely from internal factors from within themselves (self-acceptance, independence, environmental mastery, goals in life, self-development) and external factors (positive relationships with others). So that with the strength of support from the two contributions, namely from internal factors and external factors, the presence or absence of type 2 diabetes mellitus does not interfere with the psychological well-being of the third subject.
