Abstract

Background: Everyday our body is always moving, one of the movements we do is sitting to standing. The ability to sit to stand is important to everyday life because it is a prerequisite for functional independence. However, with age, this difficulty in sitting to standing is common for the elderly. Purpose: This study aims to determine differences angle in the sit to stand phase that occurs in the elderly and young adults. Methods: This study used an observational study with a cross-sectional study approach. Subjects totaled 42 people consisting of 21 elderly people with an age range of 60 to 79 years with an average 67.48±5.04 and 21 young adults with an age range of 20 to 25 years an average of 21.71±1.06. Parameters measured were the duration while doing FTSTS and the angles of the hip, knee and ankle. Results: there were differences in the duration of FTSTS in the elderly (p <0.001) and differences in the angles of hip phase 1 (p 0.001), hip phase 2 (p <0.001), knee phase 4 (p 0.002) and ankle phase 3 (p 0.002), and ankle phase 4 (p <0.001). Conclusion: From the results of the study, there were differences in the duration of FTSTS between the elderly and young adults and the difference in the angles of maximum impact on the hip phase 1, hip phase2, knee phase 4, ankle phase 3 and ankle phase 4.
