Abstract

This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research. The aims of this research are to classify the translation variations of simple preposition, describe the function of simple preposition in Wife and its translation. The data of this research paper are simple prepositions and their translations found in novel Wife consisting of 213 pages or chapter 1 until 4, and the researcher finds 451 data in simple preposition. The data are analyzed using comparison method. From the data analysis, the researcher finds 64 variety of meaning of simple preposition, namely: (1) simple preposition at has 8 varieties meaning, they are; di, ke arah, dengan, tiap, pada, dalam, pukul, saat and zero. (2) simple preposition for has 11 varieties meaning, they are; untuk, di, dengan, ke, menerima, buat, demi, masuk, pada, bagi and zero. (3) simple preposition from has 13 varieties meaning, they are; daripada, dari atas, dalam, terkena, keluar, lewat, di, ke, sejak, pulang, untuk, dari and zero.(4) simple preposition on has 11 varieties meaning, they are; di, untuk, di atas, pada, di saat, ke, dekat, keatas, dari, dalam and zero. (5) simple preposition to has 9 varieties meaning, they are; agar, ke, untuk, pada, di, kepada, bagi, jadi and zero.(6) simple preposition with has 12 varieties meaning, they are; di, yang, dengan, bersama, menyandarkan, yang menuntun, sambil, penuh, seraya, pakai, pada and zero. The last result, there are 34 functions of simple preposition, namely: (1) simple preposition at has 5 functions. They are; as the marker of direction, place, position, orientation and time. (2) simple preposition for has 6 functions. They are; as the marker of purpose, manner, direction, cause, recipient and orientation.(3) simple preposition from has 7 functions. They are; as the marker of orientation, direction, position, place, source, purpose and time. (4) simple preposition on has 7 functions. They are; as the marker of purpose, place, position, orientation, time, recipient and direction. (5) simple preposition to has 4 functions. They are; as the marker of purpose, direction, place and recipient. (6) simple preposition with has 5 functions. They are; as the marker of orientation, instrument, accompaniment, manner and purpose.
