Abstract

The major principle of this study is how the struggle against the State’s oppression is reflected in Maxim Gorky’s Mother, especially viewed from Marxist Approach. The object of this study is the novel of Mother, which is giving emphasis in major character. The aim of the study is giving contribution to the body knowledge, particularly the literary study on Maxim Gorky’s Mother. The technique of collecting data analysis is library research. In this study, the writer uses two data sources, namely primary and secondary data are the theory of Marxist, which is introduced by Karl Marx, and other books that are related to the research. The technique of analyzing the data is descriptive. The outcome of this study is The State’s oppression happens because they hidden the truth from labor. The labor was exploited by the factoy owners. This novel also represents Maxim Gorky’s response to the contemporary social realities in Russia in early twentieth century, particularly the economy, social, and politic those are changed by the industrial revolution.
