Abstract
[Title: Clove Leaf Oil Purification By Adsorption Method Using Bentonite Clay Adsorbent With Citric Acid Activation From Lemon] Distilled clove leaf oil with a brownish black color and dirty. These results were caused by contamination with metal ions such as Fe, Mg, Mn, Pb and Zn derived from clove leaves or from distillers. To overcome this, a purification process can be carried out to reduce or even eliminate the metal ion content in the oil. The purification method used in this research is the adsorption process with bentonite clay and activation with citric acid. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of bentonite clay bioadsorbent and to improve the quality of clove leaf oil, through a study of the clarity, brightness, color, and concentration of bentonite. The steps taken are (1) the process of making bioadsorbent, (2) the process of activating the adsorbent with citric acid from lemon juice, (3) the process of purification or metal adsorption and (4) analysis using the AAS method. In the adsorption experiment, a comparison of the concentration of bentonite clay with lemon juiced citric acid was used, namely 1: 7 with an activation time of 24 hours, and with 4 variations of adsorption time, namely 90; 105; 120 and 135 minute replays. The purified clove leaf oil had the lowest Fe content of >0.04 ppm. Based on the physical characteristics, content and levels of Fe contained, the purified clove leaf oil meets the quality standards of the Indonesian National Standard.
