Abstract

This research studies about the translation analysis of idiomatic expression in Daniel Steel’s Family Album into Album Keluarga by Istiani Prajoko. The objectives of the study are to clarify the accuracy of translation and to describe the equivalence translation of idiomatic expression in Daniel Steel’s novel Family Album. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The objects of the research are idioms as verb found in Daniel Steel’s Family Album and its translation Album Keluarga by Istiani Prajoko. The data are in the form of idioms used in verb. They are collected from both the novel by using document method. She applies comparison method in analyzing the data of the study. The result of the data analysis show that In this novel, of the 78 representative data, there are 11 idiomatic expressions which are translated inaccurately. By using 4 type of translation names translation of idiom with similar meaning and dissimilar form, translation of idiom with similar meaning and similar form, Translation of idiom by paraphrase, Translation of idiom by omission. Each of accurateness divided into 2 idoms; separable idioms and Inseparable idioms. Others equivalence of translation names Equivalence of translation with similar meaning and similar form, Equivalence of translation with similar meaning and dissimilar form Equivalence of translation with paraphrase, Equivalence of translation with omission. Each of equivalence consists of denotative, connotative, text normative, and pragmatic equivalence. In the novel Family Album there is 37,50% of denotative equivalence, 30% pragmatic equivalence, 20% connotative equivalence, and 12,50% text normative equivalence.
