Abstract
Klaten Utara District is an area that is included in the urban center system in Klaten Regency, which functions as a settlement center, government and social service center, and economic activity. Density and high population growth rates make built-up land increase, and can be a burden on environmental quality and affect the comfort and health of the community. The application of remote sensing technology and geographic information systems (GIS) can be utilized in assessing the quality of the residential environment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the condition of the physical environmental quality of settlements and the pattern of distribution of settlements based on the quality of the settlement environment in North Klaten District. The method used is a weighted tiered quantitative analysis method through grading and weighting the parameters of building density, layout, road width, road surface conditions, shade trees, settlement locations as determining factors to analyze the quality of the settlement environment, and nearest neighbor analysis method to determine patterns settlement distribution. The environmental quality of the North Klaten settlement is divided into 3 classes, namely good quality with a score of 15-20.6, moderate quality with a score of 20.6-26.2, and poor quality with a score of 26.2-32. North Klaten Sub-District is dominated by medium-quality residential blocks with 763 blocks out of 1127 blocks or 67.7%. The distribution pattern of all settlement environmental quality classes forms a clustered pattern based on the nearest neighbor analysis.
