Abstract

This study aims to explore the most challenging skills faced by students in the TOEFL Predictive Test program at SMK Ihsanul Fikri Mungkid, as well as the reasons for their difficulties and the strategies used by students and teachers during Reading Comprehension sessions. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, and data is collected through observation, documentation, and interviews. Based on test results and interviews, the most difficult skill identified is the use of context to give meaning to difficult words, with only 15% of students being able to complete this skill. Students use several strategies such as scanning and identifying the main idea, using context clues to recognize unfamiliar vocabulary, and considering basic understanding or background knowledge. Teachers use strategies that include providing an understanding of opportunities that can be gained, providing an overview of valid sources, creating an unbiased learning environment, and reminding students of their goals. This study can provide insights to develop more effective learning strategies in improving students' reading comprehension skills in the TOEFL Predictive Test program.
