Abstract
The high use of online games to the point where they become addicted can disrupt the psychology of adolescents, so that adolescents are vulnerable to addiction to online games. The times have made it easy for teenagers to access online games. Online game addiction is influenced by many factors, one of which is anxiety. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between anxiety and online game addiction in adolescents in terms of gender. The research was conducted using a quantitative method involving 207 adolescents aged 12-21 years living in Solo Raya. This study used an anxiety scale instrument and an online game addiction scale. The measuring instrument has proven to be valid and reliable as a data collection instrument. Participants were determined using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of youth aged 12-21 years, who indicated playing online games for approximately 1-3 hours per day and domiciled in Solo Raya. Data analysis using the product moment found that there was a relationship between the anxiety variable and the online game addiction variable, an rxy value of 0.463 was obtained and Sig. (1-tailed) of 0.000 (p <0.05) means that there is a very significant positive relationship between anxiety and online game addiction in adolescents. A different test using the independent t-test based on gender showed that the anxiety variable obtained a significance of 0.195 (p > 0.05), meaning that there was no significant difference between the sexes in the anxiety variable, and the online game addiction variable obtained a significance of 0.076 (p > 0 .05), meaning that there is no significant difference between the sexes in the online game addiction variable. The effective contribution to the anxiety variable with the online game addiction variable shows a percentage of 21.4% and 78.6% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study.
