Abstract

Background: Mental disorder is a health problem that causes individuals to be less productive. Mental disorder is a health problem that causes individuals to be less productive. Care Givers are individuals who provide care for their families who are sick. Care givers can experience difficulties while caring for patients, due to the burden that must be borne by the care giver both physically and emotionally. This study aims to explore the experiences of care givers in caring for families with mental disorders. This type of qualitative research, with a Narrative Inquiry approach design. Open ended questions were conducted by researchers for in-depth interviews about Care Giver experiences in caring for patients with mental disorders. The research was conducted in Kartasura, Sukoharjo. There were 10 participants in this study who were taken using purposive sampling. Researchers used triangulation of sources in the form of interviews and observations in order to gain insight related to the theme being studied. The results of this study obtained 6 themes: (1) Anxiety experienced by Care Givers (2) Stress experienced by Care Givers, (3) Burden of Care Givers (4) Good coping mechanisms, (5) Care givers are able to utilize health services for healing, (6) Community stigma.
