Abstract
Background: Elderly is someone who is over 60 years old. Hypertension is a condition of increased blood pressure on the arterial walls, stage 1 hypertension systolic blood pressure exceeds 130-139 mmHg and diastolic 80-89 mmHg, and stage 2 hypertension systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure ≤ 90 mmHg. Hypertension can cause various complications in the body up to death. So, it is very important to control one of them by being obedient in carrying out the hypertension diet as controlling blood pressure so that it remains normal and helps reduce high blood pressure. Purpose: to determine the relationship between adherence to a hypertensive diet and blood pressure values in the elderly in Ngadirejo Village, Kartasura District, Sukoharjo Regency. Method: Type of quantitative research using a cross-sectional design. The research sample was 55 respondents using proportional random sampling technique. The method for collecting data was using a low-salt diet adherence questionnaire in hypertensive patients and measuring blood pressure values using a sphygmomanometer. The method for analyzing data uses the Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of respondents were female with a total of 50 (90.9%), the majority did not work/IRT 45 respondents (81.8%), the majority had elementary school education with 20 respondents (36.4%). The majority are aged 60-74 years old with the category of 46 respondents (83.6%). Respondents were more obedient in carrying out the hypertension diet, namely 28 respondents (50.9%). The majority of blood pressure values were included in the stage 2 hypertension category with systolic values ≥140 mmHg and diastolic ≥90 mmHg for 24 respondents (43.6%). Based on the Chi-Square test, it was found that there was a relationship between dietary compliance with hypertension and blood pressure values in the elderly in Ngadirejo Village, Kartasura District, Sukoharjo Regency.
