Abstract
Body shaming often happens to anyone, anytime, and anywhere. Nearly 92% of women have experienced body shaming, which is done without realizing the impact of the comments given to the victim. Body shaming is a comment or ridicule about someone's appearance that is not following beauty standards. This research aims to describe the experiences of students who experience body shaming. The informants in the study were five female students who had experienced body shaming. This research was conducted with qualitative methods. Data collection methods used semi-structured interviews with interview guides and tools for interviews, namely tape recorders. The data obtained were analyzed using interactive method analysis. This study showed that the subjects received a form of ridicule related to their body size, skin color, and facial condition. When experiencing ridicule, the subject feels annoyed, sad, and angry and gives responses such as being silent, changing the subject, and laughing or smiling. The impact the subject feels is lowering self-confidence, stress, and much more. Subjects make efforts to the perceived impact, namely giving positive affirmations and carrying out treatments such as maintaining food, exercising, and using skincare.
