Abstract
Islam prescribes treatment because it is part of protecting the soul in maintaining adh dharuriyuat al khams. In an effort to seek healing, it is obligatory to use treatment methods that do not violate Sharia. Medicines used must use pure and halal ingredients. The use of unclean or haram ingredients in medicine is illegal except for dharurat syar’iy (dharurat syar’iyah). This type of research is descriptive qualitative empirical research with data collection methods using literature study, documentation, and interviews. The main data source in this study is the MUI fatwa Number 107/DSN-MUI/X/2016 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Hospitals Based on Sharia Principles. The results of this study are: 1) Sharia Hospital service standards in the use of drugs containing haram elements are in accordance with the MUI fatwa concerning Guidelines for Implementing Hospitals Based on Sharia Principles No. 107/DSN-MUI/X/2016; 2) Klaten Islamic Hospital has applied Sharia Hospital service standards in the use of medicines containing haram elements according to the MUI fatwa mentioned. The condition of compulsion in administering medicines containing haram elements still to be studied by a trusted medical team and especially by the government. Is the administration of medicines containing haram elements really needed so that they must be given, are there no alternative medicines, and are they life-threatening if they are not given, so that they fulfill the dharurat syar’iy requirements.
