Abstract
Introduction: Stunting is a condition of growth failure in toddlers that has a short-term and long-term impact on the growth of toddlers. The prevalence of stunting in February 2021 in the Jumapolo Health Center was 9.06%. CED history of pregnant women and history of LBW contribute as risk factors for stunting. Objective: This study aimed to find out whether the history of chronic energy deficiency (CED) of pregnant women and the history of low birth weight (LBW) were risk factors for stunting in children under five in Jumapolo Health Center, Karanganyar Regency. Research Methodology: The study used a control case design, the sample used consisted of 31 stunted toddlers (case group) and 31 non-stunting toddlers (control group) taken by non probability sampling using purposive sampling method. Stunting data is obtained from direct measurements of the height of children under five, while the history of CED for pregnant women and LBW is obtained from the the book Maternal and Child Health. Results: Pregnant women with a history of CED were more dominant in the case group, namely 38.7% while in the control group 19.4%. children under five who had a history of LBW were more dominant in the case group at 22.6% while in the control group at 3.2%. Based on bivariate analysis, it was found that the CED history of pregnant women was not a risk factor for stunting (OR: 2,632 CI 95% : 0.836-8,288). History of LBW was a risk factor for stunting (OR: 8.75 CI 95% : 1,006-76,097) so that children with a history of LBW are 8.75 times more at risk of stunting than children without a history of LBW. Conclusion: A history of CED in pregnant women was not a risk factor for stunting. A history of LBW was a risk factor for stunting. Recommendation: Suggestions from researchers to carry out counseling related to information preventing babies with low birth weight, risk factors for stunting and increasing programs for giving PMT to pregnant women to treat chronic energy deficiency during pregnancy.
