Abstract

Pregnant women have a high risk of experiencing dental and oral health problems caused by repeated vomiting during pregnancy. The condition of repeated vomiting causes the cariogenic bacteria Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus sp to multiply easily due to the increased acidic conditions in the oral cavity, the bacteria are able to spread through the blood circulation. Dental caries that occurs in pregnant women not only has an impact on the mother but also on the fetus, such as premature birth, preeclampsia, and Low Birth Weight (LBW). Lack of knowledge of pregnant women about dental and oral health affects the health of the fetus and baby. During pregnancy, pregnant women will experience physical changes, hormonal changes, behavior, and level of knowledge. The reduced level of knowledge about dental and oral health in pregnant women is caused by a lack of knowledge about the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and mouth during pregnancy. This study provides information about the level of knowledge of pregnant women about oral health. This study uses quantitative research using a descriptive design. The number of respondents in this study was 39 at the Gatak Health Center. The data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire from the dental and oral health survey for pregnant women and a questionnaire from Aggarwal. After analyzing the data, the results found that the proportion of the level of knowledge of pregnant women about dental and oral health was the highest with sufficient criteria of 46.2%, and the average knowledge of pregnant women was 6.26 with the sufficient category.
