Abstract
Background: Education continues to experience changes and developments day by day from the constraints of Covid-19 that hit until now where learning has recovered back to normal before the pandemic hit. Teaching and learning activities can already be done face to face. The development of education is inseparable from the role of parents who always provide assistance, guidance and evaluation of learning for students. Parental involvement has an influence on reading skills. Method: the method used is a qualitative study with a case study design. The subjects of the study were homeroom teachers for class 2 SD N 1 Kalangdosari and parents/guardians of students in class 2 SD N 1 Kalangdosari. The data collection technique used was observation and interview techniques. Checking the validity of data using data triangulation in the form of source and technique/method triangulation. Results: the results to be obtained in this study are (1) parents have an important role in the process of reading fluency (2) parents need to know the conditions and situations of children to learn to read (3) the type of parenting style applied to children affects children's reading fluency. Implications: the implications of this study are: first, parents must know the conditions and needs of children in learning to read and apply parenting styles that work together to create comfort for children learning to read, second, the teacher provides insight to parents to strengthen children's knowledge about speaking skills and write. Novelty: Previous studies related to parenting styles on the application of reading skills are still limited. The findings of these researchers will be important later not only for parents but also for education in Indonesia. This study is important for creating parenting styles that can assist, guide and evaluate reading fluency.
