Abstract
TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding is a type of electric arc welding with a gas shield. This study aims to determine the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy after undergoing the TIG welding process using currents of 70 A, 80 A, 90 A, 100 A and 110 A at DCEN polarity. This welding uses AWS A5 tungsten electrodes. 10 and alumunium fillers. The type of connection used a single v groove type of seam with an angle of 45º. The standard used for the manufacture of tensile test specimens is ASTM E8 M, for testing the chemical composition using the ASTM E425-08 standard, for testing the microstructure using the ASTM E3-01 standard. The tensile test results produce the highest average tensile stress at 110 A current of 185 N/mm² and the highest average value of strain is also found at 110 A current of 5.4 mm. The results of microstructure testing with 100 X magnification on a scale of 70 m showed a clearer grain change in the weld pool area with increasing current. The results of the chemical composition test produced the main elements of aluminum alloy, namely Al (92.14%), Cu (1.207%), Si (5.665%), Fe (<0.0010%), Mn (<0.0020%), Zn (0.058%), Cr (0.058%) and the dominating elements are Al (92.14%) and Si (5.665%).
