Abstract

The phenomenon of urbanization can trigger land conversion that changes vegetation land cover into built-up areas. Changes in land cover can cause significant temperature changes in the Padang City with the surrounding area, that phenomena is called the Urban Heat Island phenomenon. The objectives of this study are (1) Identifying the istribution of built-up land in the city of Padang in year 2010, 2015 and 2020, (2) Identifying the distribution of LST and UHI in the city of Padang in 2010, 2015 and 2020, and (3) Analyzing the relationship of the distribution of built lands to the phenomenon of UHI in the city of Padang. This study used a survey method with a Stratified Random Sampling method. The UHI and LST values in this study were taken by extracting data values from Landsat 7 for 2010 and Landsat 8 for 2015 and 2020. Mapping on built-up land is carried out using the SUPERVISED CLASSIFICATION MLC algorithm, namely the Maximum Likelihood Classification. Statistical analysis to determine the relationship of UHI to built-up land using a simple Pearson product moment analysis. The results show that the distribution of built-up land in Padang City focuses on the West side of the city which has a development direction towards the North and South while the Eastern region is an area with a large and dense vegetation land level and is an area with a highland topography. The high LST temperature in Padang City is concentrated on the West side which is an urban area while the East side is an area with a high level of vegetation. The LST value produces a direct proportional distribution of UHI, so that most areas of Padang City are non-UHI and areas with high and dense levels of built-up land are areas with high concentrations of UHI. Pearson product moment correlation results show that built-up land and UHI had a strong relationship in 2010 and very strong in 2015 and 2020, with the nature of a positive relationship shows that land is built up and UHI has a similar trend development.
