Abstract

Malocclusion is a dental problem that can cause serious complication of the oral health. Malocclusion is a dental abnormalities or malrelation where the teeth doesn’t lie in the correct dental arch. Malocclusion occur due to the presence of abnormalities during dentocraniofacial development. Dentocraniofacial structure development is also related to the muscles around the mouth, especially masseter muscle. Therefore, the dentocraniofacial of patient with Angle Malocclusion class II and class II could influence masseter muscle activity as well. The aim of this literatur review is to know the difference between masseter muscle activity on patient with Angle malocclusion class II and class III. This literature review collects secondary data with year range 2012-2022 from databases, such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. The result showed that there is difference between masseter muscle activity on patient with Angle malocclusion class II and class II. Patient with Angle malocclusion class III has higher masseter muscle activity than patient with Angle malocclusion class II. Malocclusion caused the constriction of the occlusal contact area and reduce of bite force thereby it reduce the mastication performance. It also influenced masticatory muscle activity, especially masseter muscle.
