Abstract

Cancer is generally one of the most common causes of death in the world. The prevalence of cancer based on Global Cancer Statistics (GLOBOCAN) data in 2018 is estimated to have 18.1 million new cancer cases and 9.6 million deaths due to cancer. One type of oral cancer with the highest prevalence of 90-95% is oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) which is a cancer originating from stratified squamous epithelium. with cancer sites generally on the tongue, floor of the mouth and lips. High mortality occurs in cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) due to lack of knowledge about cancer therapy that can be done effectively. Therapeutic management of advanced cancers such as OSCC can be in the form of surgical, non- surgical therapy and a combination of both. The method used in this study is the Literature Review. The search to find this literature uses several databases conducted in February 2022 with Search Engines, namely 1) Pubmed, 2) Science Direct, and 3) Google Scholar. The keywords used in obtaining the data sources are as follows “Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma” AND “Cancer Therapy” OR “Cancer Treatment”. This literature review describes the possible management of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma therapy. Significant results have been shown in combination therapy, namely surgical cancer therapy followed by radiotherapy or chemotherapy, which can effectively suppress cancer cell growth.
