Abstract
Ubi Societas Ibi Ius, where there is society there is law. Thus, in order to create a peaceful and prosperous social life, legal protection is needed. One of the subjective objectives of this research is to provide definite legal protection for the creators of music/song works. The research approach used is juridical empirical. This approach method examines the juridical rules regarding the legal protection of songwriters against the use of songs without permission for commercial purposes in coffee shops. By protecting the law is the same as protecting the rights of the creator himself. Legal protection is used as a means of protecting the rights of a creator or copyright holder. If there is a copyright infringement against an author, there are legal remedies that the creator can take to get his rights back. The copyrighted song played without the songwriter's permission for commercial purposes is that the coffee shop owner must pay royalties for the song being played, because the result of the coffee shop owner's actions has caused losses to the songwriter. The composer of the song is entitled to economic rights to the playback of the music.
