Abstract
Dental caries is one of the diseases in the oral cavity whose prevalence is still quite high in Indonesia. Composite resins and glass ionomer cements are restorative materials that are often used for dental fillings. Resin composites in releasing fluorine did not show a burst effect and a low fluorine pattern, while glass ionomer cements showed a burst effect. This study aims to determine the difference in salivary pH as a buffer in the use of fluorine between fluorine composite resin and glass ionomer cement. The number of samples was 32 samples which were divided into 2 groups, namely group A fluorine-containing composite resin (Tetric N-Ceram) and group B glass ionomer cement (GC Fuji Type IX) with a size of 15mm x 1mm (ISO FDIS 4049:2009). Samples were immersed in sterile distilled water and conditioned in an incubator at 37°C for 24 hours. samples were immersed in saliva pH 5.5 to see changes in the pH of the two groups of samples. The results of measuring changes in pH were tested with the Shapiro-Wilk normality test. Data were analyzed using independent T-test. The results of the analysis showed a significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). The conclusion of this study is the difference in salivary pH as a buffer for fluoride release between the fluorine composite resin and glass ionomer cement.
