Abstract

Background: Heart failure is a health disorder that occurs in the cardiovascular system, the heart organ cannot maintain adequate circulation to meet the body's needs. Patients with heart failure in Indonesia are increasing due to several factors, such as smoking, frequent drinking of alcoholic beverages, and lack of exercise. Patients will experience physical and psychological changes, physical disorders experienced by sufferers can be in the form of heart problems, often tense muscles, frequent headaches, and feeling cold in the hands. Changes in the quality of life of patients with heart failure are also affected by physical and psychological changes. Mental health and psychological changes are related to the patient's quality of life, so treatment and support from the family are needed to improve the quality of life and cure heart failure and the patient's health.Objective : This study aims to determine the relationship between mental health and quality of life of patients with heart failure. Methods: This type of research used is a quantitative method. The population of this study is heart failure treated during the last month from November 2021 - January 2022 totaling 821 patients with a sample of 134 patients with an 6 age range of 35 - 85 years at the Salatiga Hospital Poly. The sampling method used nonprobabillity sampling method using purposive sampling technique, data collection in this study used the DASS-42 questionnaire and the MLHFQ (The Minnesota Living With Heart Failure Questionnaire) questionnaire using the Chi Square test. Results: The majority of respondents with moderate quality of life amounted to 79.1% of the entire study, and it appears that mental health does not affect and is not related to the quality of life of someone who has heart failure at the Salatiga Hospital polyclinic.Conclusion there is no relationship between mental health and the quality of life of a person with heart failure at the heart disease clinic of the Salatiga Hospital.
