Abstract
Background:The pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 that occurred at the end of 2019 caused global health problems. One of them affects the practice of dentists because dental procedures have a high probability of spreading disease easily. The spread of this disease is like the use of ultrasonic-based devices which mostly release aerosols or splashes of water, bacteria, and viruses that can contaminate the treatment environment. This shows that sterilization is needed in the dentist's practice room to prevent the spread of the virus during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the sterilization techniques that can be used to inactivate microbes and viruses is ultraviolet-c rays. Objective: To know the management of sterilization using ultraviolet-c light in dental practice as a prevention of COVID-19 transmission. Methods: Using secondary data from several journal search sources such as NCBI, Google Scholar, PubMed, ResearchGate and Science Direct with predetermined keywords. Results: The use of room sterilization in dentistry with ultraviolet-c radiation technique is effective in inactivating COVID-19 with a wavelength of 190-254nm, a dose of 40mj/〖cm〗^2, power of 18 W in 12 minutes. Conclusion: The use of sterilization with electromagnetic radiation of wavelength 254 nm, a minimum dose of 0.03-241 J / m^2, a power of 18-55 watts with an exposure time of at least 15-20 minutes is effective in inactivating the virus by damaging its RNA and DNA.
